TROY, N.Y. -- "Barack Obama is just one of those guys who lets you know if you work hard, you will achieve," said Soloman Ledger, Hudson Valley Community College student.

Ledger was with the standing room crowd inside Hudson Valley Community College's Maureen Stapleton Theater. Students cheered as President Barack Obama arrived and while he was on campus, all here watched him on screen. While many took pictures and video of the speech with cell phones, all said the President's message to students will always be memorable.

"I think it's inspiring, it makes me want to get better grades and work harder and do more and I am glad he chose to come here," said Travis Brew, HVCC student.

"I thought it was really empowering. It is great he could come to this school and talk to everyone. I though more students should have been able to go still, but it was awesome he was at our school," said Lisa Pignatelli, HVCC student.

"It's cool that Troy is getting noticed and especially Hudson Valley. They think it is only a community college because everyone looks at RPI and Siena," said Karissa Kramer.

Now, President Obama spoke directly to students saying they have an unparalleled opportunity right now and the government is here for them to help seize that opportunity.

The President said he wants to revamp the student loan system and pump more money into Pell grants. That's something that Ledger supports, as he uses the President's example for his own personal support.

"I never thought there was actually be a black president, an African American president. It lets us African American men know that we can achieve anything we put our mind to," said Ledger.
