ALBANY, N.Y. -- The sound of gunfire is not often heard in the middle of the day on Broadway. Luckily, for those people in downtown Albany on Wednesday, it was all in the name of entertainment.
"We have two different car chases we are shooting in downtown Albany," said Second Unit Stunt Director Conrad Palmisano. "Today we are shooting the opening car chase of the movie which involves this Chevelle chasing an SUV, and that opens the movie up."
Hundreds of on-lookers gathered at the corner of Broadway and State Street to get a glimpse of the action. The high-speed chase is all part of Columbia Pictures' upcoming cop comedy, "The Other Guys." Palmisano said the City of Albany makes it easy to pull off such a feat.
He said, "What we do is very difficult, and it takes a lot of control over streets and traffic. Although it needs to look dangerous, it needs to be safe. The city has been very helpful in providing that for us.
The film stars Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, but we're told they will not be in Albany for the shoot. But some 300 cast and crew members will be in Albany for the next couple of weeks. People we caught up with said they are excited their city is in the spotlight once again.
"We're big," said Tara Isaac, who works in downtown Albany. "Barack was here at Hudson Valley. Angelina was here a couple months ago, and now Will and Marky Mark. Pretty exciting. This is a hot place to be."
Brittany Conti, who also works in downtown Albany, said, "When I was walking to work today, I looked over and saw the New York City taxicab, and I was confused at first. It's great for the city and will be neat to go see the movie when it comes out. See albany, ya know?
Shooting will wrap up October 4. The movie is set to be released on Aug. 2, 2010.
