WATERFORD, N.Y. -- The Prevention Council will host a press conference Wednesday to discuss underage drinking, along with ongoing efforts to prevent the sale of alcohol to minors.
Officials said these efforts are especially important during prom and graduation season, when there's often an increase in underage drinking.
Owners and employees from each of the 12 businesses found in compliance with underage drinking laws by refusing to sell alcohol to an underage buyer are invited to the event. Each business will be presented with a certificate of appreciation and a door decal noting their accomplishment.
Prevention Council Executive Director Judith Ekman said, "We cannot reduce youth access to alcohol without the continued support of local businesses and their personnel. These individuals contribute to the health and safety of our young people, and model respect for the law. We salute them."
