Seth Dawson
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- No bail for 19-year-old Seth Dawson after an alleged assault on a police officer.

Saratoga Springs Police Chief Ed Moore said, "Unfortunately this individual was armed and had a razor. He took it out of his pocket and slashed the throat of a police officer."

His arraignment Thursday was pushed back until Dawson can get his own attorney and have a mental examination.

Dawson was at Four Winds Hospital in Saratoga Springs before fleeing the scene. Though the police would not comment on Dawson's mental condition, they do say he is responsible for his actions.

Officer Adam Baker

Moore said, "This was a conscious decision made by the individual. He had a razor with him, he knew he had a razor with him, and with one quick action slashed the throat of an officer."

Moore says the five inch cut along Officer Adam Baker's throat is the closest they've come to losing an officer on the Saratoga Springs Police Force in 50 years.

Moore said, "This was a close call. One quarter inch close. One more quarter inch and Officer Baker wouldn't be here with us, thank God it wasn't that close. A young 13-year-old girl ran into a nearby house and got a towel and the officers at the house used that towel and applied pressure. They saved his life and we're thankful for that."

The Saratoga Springs Police officer who was slashed in the neck on Wednesday is out of the hospital and resting at home while his alleged attacker is being held without bail. Saratoga County bureau reporter Kaitlyn Ross has the latest.
This incident will be used in future training to teach officers on how to react in a crisis.

Moore said, "The suspect was immediately taken into custody without harm to himself or anyone else. I couldn't have asked for a better situation to what was at first a very bad situation."

One that will be thoroughly investigated and Moore says the officers acted by the book.

Moore said, "There is one person and one person only who is at fault here and that is the defendant."

Officer Baker has been released from the hospital and is resting at home.
