NEW YORK STATE -- With a nurse shortage nationwide, New York State lawmakers are coming together to try and keep nurses in New York.
Legislation offered by the State Assembly to correct the problem includes establishing recruitment efforts, providing scholarships and student loan programs and preserving insurance benefits while studying.
“If we think we have difficulties now, training, recruiting, getting into position of helping provide medical care now, imagine what it is going to look like if we continue under the same path,” said Assemblyman James Tedisco.
A report out by the Health Care Association of New York State says there will be a shortage of 37,000 nurses by 2015.
