GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- The mother of the 7-month-old boy who was beaten to death last week is now facing a new charge in connection with his death.

Alicia Lewie, 22, of Glens Falls has been indicted on a charge of second-degree manslaughter. She was arrested last week and charged with felony reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities said Lewie left her son, Colbi, in the care of Michael Flint Jr., 23, who is accused of beating, choking and biting the baby at his home on Bay Street over the course of two days. Police said the baby lost consciousness. That's when Flint called Lewie, but she didn't call police right away, instead taking the child to Glens Falls Hospital.

Lewie is accused of failing to seek proper medical care for her son and leaving him with Flint, despite her apparent belief he had been hurting the boy.

If she's convicted on the manslaughter charge, she could spend up to 15 years behind bars.

Meanwhile, Flint faces second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter charges.
