The former head of the Urban League of Northeastern New York has pleaded guilty to fraud.
Federal prosecutors say Aaron Dare, 37, admitted to committing wire fraud and making a false statement in order to obtain loans from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
All of this stems from real estate deals that went bad. According to the plea deal, Dare took in more than $8 million in loans, with little or no equity to back them up.
Prosecutors said he could get as many as 27 years in prison and may face a fine up to $750,000. His sentencing is scheduled for March.
