String of robberies in Ballston Spa

By: Dave Detling

SARATOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The string of break-ins happened early Wednesday morning at the Country Club Plaza. Six businesses were robbed as well as a nearby pizza parlor. All of the doors were pried open with some type of device. As for what was stolen, the Sheriff's Department will only say a "significant" amount of money was taken. However, they did say a forensic team is testing evidence touched by the vandals.

The robberies come after a string of break-ins in Schuylerville. While police say the incidents are unrelated, the break-ins at the Country Club Plaza have everyone looking for answers.

"At the intersection of Geyser and Rowland, subjects opened, pried open the front door of each business. They entered each business. Five out of the seven businesses had money taken out of the cash registers and we had recovered some physical evidence at the scene that we're going to be processing for some forensic evidence," said Michael Zurlo of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department.

A string of robberies in Ballston Spa has left a shopping center vandalized. Now the Sheriff's Department is searching for answers. Dave Detling has more.

"It's...you feel violated. It's actually kind of scary. This is a family neighborhood and we encourage, I encourage, young people come here. It's a safe place to come here and play games on the table, have a smoothie or just sit with their friends," said Gina Prince of Jitters Café.

To note, a tipster did tell us prior to the robberies, a solicitor came in asking whether stores were alarmed. It turns out those that said no were the ones robbed. Police are following this lead but so far there are no arrests.
