Michael Rocque was driving south on the Northway Saturday night. He passed Exit 11. Cars were stopped. People were getting a peak at the scene of a nasty accident.
"Looked down saw down below me in the median a vehicle that was upside down," said Michael Rocque, Clifton Park resident.
Minutes before Laurie Rist and her boyfriend Keith Provost were also headed south. Rist said she was changing lanes when she lost control of her Chevy Trailblazer. The truck flipped and landed upside down.
An accident on the Northway injures two people and as Curtis Schick reports, one of the people who pulled over to help might be calling Congress home next fall.
"It was on the hood and it looked like a movie. You could see the ground coming at you through the windshield," said Rist, who lives in Cohoes.
Broken glass and pieces of the truck mark where it landed. Provost was thrown from the vehicle. Rist was trapped in her seat belt.
"I was hanging upside down. I was asking whoever was out there to please get me out of here because I was stuck in the seat belt," said Rist.
Rocque then pulled his truck over and took off down the hill and if that name sounds familiar, the former army Lt. Colonel is also running for Congress.
"Being a good soldier I always carry a knife with me. And with the help of another gentleman, we were able to cut the seat belt that restrained Laurie," said Rocque.
Rocque said they then carefully got Laurie out of the car and took turns keeping her neck stable until first responders arrived. Laurie's neck is broken and she has some cuts on her hand.
Provost has a broken arm and back. But, thanks to Rocque and the others who pulled over instead of passing by, it wasn't any worse.
"I certainly wasn't the only one. There were a handful of people already here. I jumped in to see if I could help and be part of that process," said Rocque.
"I appreciate everything that He has done for me. He's still calling," said Rist.
Rist and Provost recover, it's Rocque and the others answering a call for help that saved the day.
