WATERFORD, N.Y. -- A Mechanicville man is facing charges after police said he scammed an elderly Waterford couple.

Police said Joshua Baranowski, 22, went to the couple's home and told them their chimney was in need of repairs and that it would cost them $1,200. Two estimates revealed that the work he did actually only totaled $50, with materials.

Baranowski is charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and soliciting without a licence in the Town of Waterford.

Anyone who may have been a victim of this scam is asked to call the Waterford Police Department at 237-3341.
