ALBANY, N.Y. -- Nearly two weeks after Kathina Thomas was shot while playing outside her family's Albany home, 50 family members and friends came to Graceland Cemetery Tuesday to bury the 10-year-old.
By all accounts, Kathina was a smart, fun-loving little girl. Her family moved over a year ago from Guyana looking for a better life in
America, but instead found unimaginable heartache in Albany.
It was a traditional Guyanese burial. The family stayed even as the tent was taken down and the casket was lowered.
The pastor told us that in Guyana, the killer will often be forced to visit his victim's grave - the last thing he sees before prison.
A 10-year-old Albany girl who was shot outside her home was laid to rest Monday at Graceland Cemetery. Family and friends of Kathina Thomas released 200 balloons into the air during the emotional ceremony. Steve Ference reports.
This, as police questioned a 15-year-old in the case. All of it, too much for the family to bear as they released 200 balloons in memory of their little girl, trying to say goodbye.
