DUANESBURG, N.Y. -- State Police said a man who jumped out of a skydiving plane without a parachute over the weekend committed suicide.

Sloan Carafello, 29, of Schenectady died Saturday after falling 10,000 feet onto a house near the Duanesburg Airport.

State Police said a man who jumped out of a skydiving plane without a parachute over the weekend committed suicide.
State Police said Carafello boarded the single engine plane as an observer on the flight from which three others were skydiving. After the three skydivers jumped, witnesses said Carafello followed.

An autopsy on Sunday found that the cause of death was massive
trauma, and State Police said the death was ruled a suicide.

Carafello's co-workers told the Times Union that he asked them frequently in recent months, "If you had to die, would you rather jump off a building or jump out of a plane without a parachute?"
