TROY, N.Y. -- The sister of Keith Levin was taken out of the courtroom during the arraignment of the woman police say murdered her brother. Kimberly Mayo of Troy is facing murder charges in connection with the 27-year-old’s death.
“He had a domestic relationship with the woman,” said Troy Police Det. Sgt. David Dean.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to a call outside 804 8th street. They reported finding a man on the ground, bleeding from a stab wound.
“He was stabbed in the upper torso with a large cutting instrument,” Dean said.
Mayo is also charged with keying and slashing the tires on a car Levin was borrowing. She appeared before Judge Christopher Maier who entered a not guilty plea on her behalf.
Troy Police arrest the woman they say stabbed a 27-year-old man Wednesday night. The deadly stabbing is Troy's third murder in nearly as many weeks. Our Mark Repasky has the latest.
Levin's sister told reporters that her brother and Mayo dated in the past, but he had moved to Stillwater and was living with a girlfriend. She says family members knew Mayo had a violent temper and warned him to stay away from her.
“They got into a fight two or three weeks ago. I don't know why, I don't know how, but she punched my brother in the face and they really got into it,” said Sheila Levin, the victim’s sister.
“There are some reports that there had been arguments earlier in the day. That's very preliminary at this point. We're still looking into that,” Dean said.
Levin's murder is the third in the Collar City this year and the second within a week.
Troy Police have still not named any suspects in a May 15th shooting that left 25-year-old Justin Smith dead.
