NORTH COUNTRY -- It wasn't good news in the North Country, where voters in several districts voted down their proposed budgets.
Last year, just one North Country district's budget was defeated. This year, several have to go back to the drawing board.
The voters in Glens Falls voted down the proposed budget for the first time since 1997, but it was a close vote at 522 to 501. Ultimately, though, voters defeated the $38.1 million budget that would have equated to a 3 to 4 percent tax increase.
It wasn't good news in the North Country, where voters in several districts voted down their proposed budgets. Our Jessica Mokhiber has the details.
In Schroon Lake, the voters said no to the $6.5 million budget that included a 14-percent increase in spending, mainly due to construction costs.
Corinth voters also defeated the $21 million budget there. In the South Glens Falls School District, voters said no to the budget for the second year in a row, but this year the budget included a small tax decrease.
Usually when a budget is defeated, the board will go back and propose a new budget for people to vote on. If that fails, the board will adopt a contingency budget.
