ALBANY, N.Y. -- Former Urban League President Aaron Dare has pleaded guilty to a felony charge of offering a false instrument for filing.
Dare had been accused of lying to obtain federal loans to buy properties, including the Historic Pastures Apartments. Several victims called the city of Albany to complain, claiming Dare diverted security deposits and condo association fees to line his own pocket.
DA David Soares said Dare has hurt many Albany residents and only added more devastation to the housing crisis.
"His acts have committed credible implications and impact for his conduct we will all have to bare with for quit sometime. As the city is efforting to turn itself around,” said Soares.

Dare could be sentenced to 1- 3 years in prison for this state charge, which he will serve together with another federal charge. His lawyer said it could have been worse for Dare, but his client cooperated with officials he received a lighter sentence.
"Araon made this determination because he was facing obviously the four charges total up to 20 years, and he got 1-3 and he's been cooperating and he is going to be very corporative hopefully it will be something that will resolve itself, it was his choice he made the decision,” said Arnold W. Proskin, Attorney.
Dare faces up to 27 years in prison on other federal charges. Dare has congestive heart disease and will need a heart replacement. He is on house arrest receiving medical treatment.
