AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- One man is dead after crane repair work turns deadly in the Town of Amsterdam.

The Montgomery County Sheriff says Matthew J. Hentnik, 41, and a friend were working on the crane on Route 67 Saturday when the boom buckled, pinning Hentnik underneath.

Witnesses were able to raise the boom and begin first aid before firefighters and paramedics arrived.

Hentnik was taken to St. Mary's Hospital where he later died from his injuries.
