ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany County DA David Soares says reports in today's Albany Times Union are untrue -- specifically, reports that he criticized Attorney General Andrew Cuomo's report on Troopergate.

Soares released the following statement:

As I stated before this review began, the Public Integrity Unit of the Office of the Albany County District Attorney has a process that must be strictly adhered to when accusations of misconduct are made. Approximately three weeks ago, we began gathering relevant information from many sources for review.

I sincerely appreciate the help of all who have assisted in our analysis, including our partner, the Office of the Attorney General for their continued cooperation during our inquiry. A recent press story that my office planned to negatively critique the Attorney General's report is wholly untrue and we will continue our good, ongoing relationship with the Attorney General.

To date, our assessment of these materials is not complete, and no findings have been made. To draw any conclusions before reviewing all evidence would directly contradict the principles of our process.

Again, I ask that our continuing course of action be respected. There will be no public comment before a final, legal determination is made."

The Times Union article said that Soares called Cuomo's investigation "badly done" and that he is irritated his office is in the middle of the investigation.

Cuomo's investigation showed the Governor's former communications director Darren Dopp and former Homeland Security Deputy William Howard improperly, but not illegally, gathered information to monitor Bruno's use of state aircraft. The DA's full report is expected out in a couple of weeks.

The Senate Investigations Committee along with the State Ethics Commission is also conducting independent investigations.

In the wake of the Attorney General's report, the Ethics Commission revised state aircraft policy last week -- which now requires that state employees only use it for business purposes and must pay back the state for personal use.
