ALBANY, N.Y. -- He was there to announce the Senate's return to work Monday, but Senator Majority Leader Joe Bruno fueled his ongoing feud with Governor Spitzer.
The Senator insists he'd be happy to meet with the Governor to do the people's work -- but only in public.
"I've got a problem with what goes on around here on the second floor with this Governor, with his people around him who have totally politicized everything from day one, who have made it almost impossible to move forward and govern," said Bruno.
Meanwhile, he says the Senate will be busy working on a host of issues. They include increasing senior property tax rebate checks by $200 million, creating jobs upstate and passing a bill giving the death penalty to cop killers. They also want to tackle a congestion pricing bill securing federal money to improve air quality and travel in New York City.
The feud between Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno and Governor Spitzer isn't going away. And as our Ken Jubie reports, with the Senate coming back to work next Monday, tension could heat up again.
Bruno also sounded off on a Times Union article saying he flew to Manhattan on April 8th in a State Police helicopter with the Executive Director of the Senate Republicans Campaign Committee.
"What paper was that? Times Union. I don't read the Times Union anymore. April 8th was Easter Sunday. I was not in New York City for a fundraiser or any other government business. And April 8th, and I'm amazed that you don't know, was also my birthday," said Bruno.
Bruno says he definitely wasn't doing business on such an important day and the paper should check its facts.
