LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- A new poll from the Siena Research Institute covers a variety of issues ranging from the presidential election to the impact of gas prices.
The poll shows the Democratic candidates in the presidential election have widened their lead over John McCain. Hillary Clinton leads 51-39 percent, and Barack Obama leads 49-38 percent, according to the poll of registered voters in New York.
And while most New York Democrats think Clinton should keep fighting for the nomination, more than 40 percent think she should drop out now.
Steve Greenberg of the Siena Research Institute talks about the latest poll results.
The poll also finds that gas prices are having a serious impact on the financial conditions of New Yorkers.
Fifty-seven percent of voters say increases in gas prices are having a "very serious impact" on their financial condition, while another 29 percent say those increases are having a "somewhat serious impact." Support for reducing the state gas tax by 32 cents per gallon for the summer is supported by 61 percent and opposed by 35 percent.
Voters are overwhelmingly opposed to a pay raise for the Governor, strongly opposed to a judicial pay raise, but are nearly split when it comes to a pay raise for state legislators.
