ALBANY, N.Y. -- Assembly Minority James Tedisco is renewing calls for his summertime gas tax holiday. Tedisco has launched a statewide petition drive he says will force the Assembly majority to take action.
Assembly Democrats say this a federal issue and that any savings would just be pocketed before getting passed down to the consumer. But Tedisco says the short-term savings would add up in the long run.
Gas prices don't seem like they're going down anytime soon, but Assembly Minority Leader Jim Tedisco is trying to change that, at least for a little while.
"But you got to take one step and say, yeah we're gonna take some of that money invest it in alternative fuels, and in five to ten years we will not be held hostage by the petroleum companies the countries that have it and fossil fuel," Tedisco said.
The petition drive is expected to last for several weeks.
