Nintendo is soon releasing its eighth version of Mario Kart, but this version allows players to sit behind the wheel – a motion-sensitive Wii wheel that comes packaged with the game.
“Mario Kart is a racing game where you race against other Nintendo franchise characters in just all-out battle or straight racing,” said Melvin Forrest of Nintendo. “Just as if you were driving a car, you hold the Wii wheel up and do the motion as if you were driving a cart.”
The new version also has motorcycles, at least a dozen new courses and an online mode where you can compete as one of up to a dozen racers.
Mario Kart Wii, packaged with the wheel, runs for around $50, and is rated E for everyone.
The old video game standards Mario Kart and Myst are now appearing in new form manifestations, incorporating new elements for a Wii generation. Adam Balkin has more.
Almost 15 years ago, the game Myst launched on computers and dazzled gamers with intricate, beautifully-rendered worlds filled with mind-bending puzzles.
Now, that exact same game is back – on Nintendo's touch-screen handheld DS.
Developers say it is both in an effort to draw new fans to the franchise and give original fans of the game a chance to poke around the game as they're poking around town.
“This is the original Myst - this is the game that started it all,” said Manny Granillo of Hoplight Research. “Over 13 million copies have sold since its inception, and it continues to sell on pretty much every platform."
"And one of the things we wanted to do is since this story so encapsulated the story-seeking and adventuring-seeking minds of a lot of people, we felt it had to be on a handheld. Nintendo was perfect for that," continued Granillo. "We've even added a new age called the Rime age, which was not included in the original Myst, but was originally designed."
Myst for the Nintendo DS will cost $30 when it launches on May 20.
