In society today, many women have the need to do things perfectly. An attitude that is brings more stress than relief.
"They are expected to be wage earners, home makers and parents and spouses and I think our society sets up women especially for perfection. They feel like a failure if they are not good at everything they do," said psychologist Ray Angelini.
With more women working, the pressure of performing not only at home but at work can be overwhelming.
Angelini said a woman's drive for perfection is related to her thoughts and anxiety.
"People get into this perfectionistic trap because it relieves anxiety. So if they do the dishes in the sink, they feel less anxious, and relax," said Angelini.
He said people have to learn to desensitize themselves and realize the world won't end if the dishes aren't done. Learn how to 'quiet' your life.
In society today, many women have the need to do it 'perfectly' attitude. An attitude that brings more stress than relief.
"Yoga, relaxation tapes, listening to soft music, exercise. Things like that are all very good in terms of lowering your anxiety level because perfectionism is more of an anxiety issue more than anything else," Angelini said.
According to the report, men and women are different. On the average, men worry about three things per day, women about twelve.
"The pressure is never on the men the same way as it is for women. Completely unfair and completely unbalanced," said Bill Hugerich.
Learning not to aim for perfection takes time, learn to be, rather than do. Learn how to let go. Learn how to relax. Learn how laugh and take life a lot slower and a lot easier.
