SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Thousands of people will be shielded from the cold winter weather, as Governor David Paterson approves the donation of about 7,000 new winter coats to be delivered to shelters and Salvation Army Outlets throughout New York State.
Shelters like the Schenectady City Mission who were in desperate need of warm clothing received just what they were hoping for.
"We have people that did not expect it and folks that had coat drives and had run dry and they were just very appreciative that we came through this time of year," said Donna Lewin, Hudson Correctional Facility Seputy Supt.

Governor Paterson says this is a small gesture, but hopefully these coats will find their way to individuals who need them this winter.
The coats that were donated were made by inmates at Clinton Correctional Facility five to eight years ago and are no longer apart of the officers' standard uniform.
