Poker run rolls through three states

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - It's a cross county card game and bikers bet their hands to help make a difference. Dozens revved up their engines for the Harley Owner's of Brunswick Poker Run.

"We have a beautiful ride as long as it doesn't rain. The guys who come for this always support us no matter what the charity is," said event organizer Tim Fogarty.

"Bikers like to help and they are just like everyone else. We wear beards look a little scruffy sometimes. We are pretty generous people," said Tom Hall, President of the Brunswick Harley Owner's Group.

Dozens of bikers gassed up their hogs and anted up this weekend, all in an effort to raise money to fight domestic violence. Our Curtis Schick has more on this poker game on wheels.
The card table was a tri-state run through the rolling hills of Rensselaer, Berkshire and Bennington counties. Each player gets five cards, one at the start, three at stops along the more than 80 mile ride and one at the end.

"You work for the best hand of poker, five card stud. The one who wins that with the highest hand wins for the best hand," said Fogarty.

Organizers say this game is about more than just getting the best hand. It's about lending a hand. The money made through application fees and donations goes the Unity House's Domestic Violence Housing program. Last year, the program housed 80 families and Program Director Dacey Bonney says it's donations that make a big difference.

"We treat everyone that comes in the door. There is a potential for anyone to become a victim of domestic violence so the money is crucial," said Bonney.

Organizers say the ride should bring in as much as $3,000.
