ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Albany man who officials call a persistent violent felon will serve 12 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to attempted burglary.

According to the Albany County DA's office, Edward Moran, 41, was armed with a knife when he broke into the home of an 86-year-old woman on Buchanan Street back in October. When the woman came downstairs, Moran demanded money from her. Moran was given an undisclosed amount of money and took off.

The DA said Moran has been convicted of four felonies -- two violent -- and 11 misdemeanors. Of the past 251 months, he has spent 178.3 months behind bars.

Moran's sentencing is set for May.
