Checkpoints result in 24 arrests
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany County District Attorney David Soares has announced the preliminary results of the sobriety enforcement initiative that took place throughout the county Thursday night.
Sixteen police agencies set up a total of seven checkpoints in Menands, Guilderland, Coeymans, Colonie, Cohoes, the Green Island Bridge and Watervliet.

There were also roving checkpoints throughout the county during the five-hour period.
Preliminary results show there were 24 arrests for alcohol or drug related offenses, as well as dozens of other violations.

"I would like to thank our partners in law enforcement for the professionalism and cooperation displayed during the checkpoints last evening. Your dedication to public safety should be commended and I sincerely appreciate your willingness, despite inclement weather, to ensure that the streets of Albany County are the safest streets in New York State."
