COEYMANS, N.Y. -- A Selkirk man is facing charges after police said he almost ran down an officer during a traffic stop in the Town of Coeymans.

Coeymans police said an officer had stopped a car for speeding on Old Ravena Road around 5 p.m. Tuesday. While the car was pulled over, police said Corey Brooks, 20, pulled up in a separate vehicle to ask about the traffic stop. When he drove off, police said he squealed his tires, yelled obscenities and made an illegal U-turn on Route 9W. He then sped directly toward the officer, driving within 15 feet of him before turning away.

The officer got in his patrol car and following Brooks but then lost sight of him. Brooks later turned himself in at the Coeymans Police Station.

He was arrested and charged with attempted assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, criminal trespass and several traffic violations. He was arraigned and sent to Albany County Jail without bail.
