Chester A. Arthur remembered this holiday weekend

ALBANY, N.Y. -- It's an annual tradition in Albany as service men and women are remembered and honored this weekend, so is the twenty first President of the United States.


Chester A. Arthur was a General in the Civil War and he's buried the Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands. The Albany County Joint Veterans Council and Marine Corps League are honoring Arthur's service to our country.

Each Sunday before memorial day- people gather to honor the work Arthur did.

"Who has so many direct root here, being born just across the border in Vermont, a graduate of Union College, a principal over in Vermont before he began his legal career in New York City, and his participation in the civil war before becoming president,” said Mike Breslin, (D) Albany County Executive.


Arthur served one term in the white house, from 1881-1885, he died a year later in 1886.
