Virtual dementia tour
FORT EDWARD, N.Y. -- Jacquie Freihofer and Bonnie Colomb say they've had a long struggle with Alzheimer's.
"For so many years, our mother was a vital, very, very productive, very happy, cheerful person," said Colomb.
So when their mother, Rose, started to become a little needy, they never thought it could become a lifetime endeavor they couldn't keep up. Freihofer and Colomb are taking a virtual dementia tour.
"The people here at Fort Hudson are the people who helped us with that, helped us understand it," said Colomb.

Freihofer and Colomb have had their mother at the Fort Hudson Nursing Home for four years now. They are about to get a taste of what life is like for their mother, Rose.
We can't show you what happens during the tour, but you can imagine how hard it would be to complete tasks with distracting noise in your ears and popcorn kernels in your shoes and gloves.
"I had trouble breathing. I felt upset and I wanted to cry and I just wanted to leave. I understand it a little more. It's much worse than I thought," said Freihofer.
It's a lesson learned and hopefully, not forgotten.
