Votes being challenged in 20th district race
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Robert Rosegarten is a Democrat from Columbia County. Nick Caimano is a Republican from Warren County. The two have a little in common. Both were in advertising before retiring. Both served as local elected officials. And both, along with their wives, voted absentee in the special election for the 20th Congressional District. And both had campaign lawyers object to their ballots.

“All those people that were out of town must be doing something wrong, we are going to challenge them. It was crazy, crazy,” said Caimano.

Caimano said his ballot was challenged because the Murphy campaign didn't think he lived in the district. He said he and his wife were in Florida on Election Day, and have lived in Queensbury for 30 years It's a story that sounds very familiar to Rosegarten's.

“There was no question that my wife and I wanted to participate. You have to participate, this is where you live,” said Rosegarten.

The Tedisco campaign is challenging the Rosegartens' ballots because they think they live in New York City. Bob said, yes, they do own a home in the city and were on vacation in the city on Election Day but that they've lived in Copake Falls for the past 10 years.

Both men said the whole thing is ridiculous.

“I want my vote counted. There is no truth it should be counted, it is a legitimate vote,” said Rosegarten.

“I feel sad that this country has gotten to a point where when you and I go to vote, we don't even know if it is going to count,” said Caimano.

Murphy's campaign later changed its mind on the Caimanos' votes and they will be counted.

In all there are around 1,800 paper ballots that still have not been opened.
