Police: Thruway robbery suspect commits suicide
DANUBE, N.Y. (AP) - State police are releasing more details on an armed robbery on the Thruway and a 40-mile chase that ended withthe suspect committing suicide.
The state police Thruway detail says a woman with a gun robbed a gas station attendant at the Patersonville plaza in the Mohawk Valley around 5 a.m. Wednesday and headed west on Interstate 90 with troopers in pursuit.
After about 40 miles, troopers used stop sticks to blow out two tires on her vehicle, ending the chase just east of Exit 29A near Little Falls in Herkimer County.
When troopers approached her vehicle, they found she was dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities have tentatively identified the woman but are withholding her name until her family can be notified. Police say she was driving a 1997 Explorer registered in Texas.
Troopers recovered the gas station's money from the woman's vehicle.
Both westbound lanes were closed for a short time after the chase.
