Two arrested after stabbing at a Saratoga night club

By: Dave Detling

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- People walking down Broadway were taking in the sights synonymous with Saratoga Springs.

"I would say that people are friendly. Most of the time you recognize everybody that's on the street, or you know, there's a high level of familiarity," said Rock City Falls resident Doreen Mitchell.

However, early Sunday morning, there was something out of the ordinary.

Yellow caution tape blocked of seven business, including Club 388. According to Saratoga Police, a man was stabbed inside the club.

"The subject who was injured was taken away in an ambulance and is now being treated, I believe, down at Albany Medical Center, said Sergeant Jason Tetu of the Saratoga Springs Police Department.

It happened next to Maddalena Alverez's apartment. She was on her way two work at Pizza on Broadway when she found herself in the middle of a police investigation.

"All of a sudden I hear police saying, somebody is out here and came out the door and I'm like, okay. The police said to me, you know you're in a crime scene? I was like, what?" exclaimed Alverez.

Her reaction was similar to everyone we spoke to.

"That definitely is very surprising that an event like that would occur here," said Doreen Mitchell.

Blood markings still remain both in and outside the club.
Residents say they're shocked that this happened in what they thought was a safe Spa City.

We caught up with Ballston Spa resident Michael Stephens who was walking down Broadway.

He described the city as "safe."

But when we told him there was a stabbing and that he was in fact standing right on top blood stained sidewalk, he froze.

Glenn Mitchell was also speechless.

"Something like that is very surprising. It's a safe community. Police department's great here. They're friendly to all the patrons and here, to have something like that happen it just absurd," he said.

As for further details into the investigation, two Schenectady men have been arrested. Police say Dwight Williams and James Steele were arrested shortly after the fight started at the entrance to Club 388.

Police broke up the fight and found a 25-year-old man laying on the ground just inside the club. They say he was stabbed several times in the torso.

Witnesses told police who the two men were and which way they took off. Police arrested the men about two minutes later.

Right now police aren't giving the victim's name and say his injuries are serious, but we don't have an exact update on his condition.
