ALBANY, N.Y. -- A 28-year veteran of the Albany Police Department has been suspended after a DWI-refusal arrest.

Det. George McNally, 54, of Delmar was charged in connection with a property damage hit and run accident Sunday evening.

Albany police said McNally hit a parked car near the intersection of New Scotland Avenue and Sycamore Street and then drove off. Witnesses provided police with information leading to McNally's arrest.

When officials arrived at McNally's residence, he refused a breath test. He was arrested and charged with DWI-refusal. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and has been suspended from the department.

Chief James Tuffey issued a statement saying, "I am extremely disappointed with the arrest of one of our members for allegedly being involved in a alcohol related accident. I expect all of our officers to demonstrate a high level of professional on and off duty at all times and they will be held accountable for their actions."
