ALBANY, N.Y. -- Former Guilderland Police Chief James Murley pleaded guilty to official misconduct in Albany City Court on Friday.

The misdemeanor charge stems from allegations that Murley had been gambling at Turning Stone casino in Verona when he claimed to be working.

The Albany County District Attorney's Office said Murley has been ordered to pay an $800 fine and $13,500 in restitution to the Town of Guilderland for the times he cheated on his timecards.

As part of the plea, Murley will also have to receive treatment for his gambling addiction.

Murley retired from the force in May 2007, just days before he would have faced removal hearings in the wake of the allegations.
