Schenectady parade marks unofficial start to holiday season
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- This is my home, Schenectady, and I wouldn't miss it for the world,” said Owen Mclaughlin.
Owen Mclaughlin knows he's home for the holidays when Schenectady closes State Street, and people pile in under Proctors marquee. It's the unofficial start of the Season. Thousands bundled up for the city's annual holiday parade.
“Everyone is in a good spirit. It's getting me ready for the holidays,” said Owen.
The parade is having something for everyone. Ah, the holiday sounds of Islands, warming holiday hearts. Even with temps hovering in the 20s.
"I thought my pouch would keep me warm. He loves to be outside and see people. I thought he would have fun, but now he's cold," said a parade goer.
“I have a blanket, snow pants, boots, a blanket, and hot chocolate,” said Alicia Morris.

Business was brisk for Apertivo. Workers served up hot coca and warm cups of soup, and they say it’s still busy at the year old restaurant even in the chilly economy.
“Lunches are picking up; we are doing a lot for lunch. The downtown workers are finding it is a nice place to come,” said Denise.
Kids probably think downtown is a nice place to come too. After getting an early gift from Santa, thanks to some local fire fighters. However, the real gifts are memories. Making that cold night in November, one you'll never forget.
