October snow storm causes power outages

By: Web Staff

CAPITAL REGION -- While the snow is melting now in some parts of the area, it was a Winter Wonderland for many waking up throughout the Capital Region.

National Grid said crews were out early this morning trying to get the power back on throughout the region. Thousands of people were without power overnight as a result of the weather, including more than 4,000 people in Schenectady County and more than 1,000 in Albany County.

Most of the power is expected to be restored by midnight, but there will be some scattered outages in various counties throughout the area until Thursday morning.

The Capital Region does not traditionally get much snow in the month of October. The biggest snowfall to hit the City of Albany was about 7 inches back in 1987. Several people were killed in that storm.
