Police warn about Nigerian Scams
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. -- Albany Police are warning residents to beware of various email scams that have been circling around.
Police say over the past few months many capital region residents have been receiving emails commonly referred to as "Nigerian Scams".
The scam, which comes in different forms promises a person a percentage of money if he or she agrees to help move cash from one bank account to another.
In most cases the person sending the email represents himself or herself as a agent of the country or the bank involved. The scam artist's goal is to eventually trick people into giving their bank account information.
Police say anyone that has received such emails should disregard it immediately and not return any information.
