ALBANY, N.Y. -- A scary scene unfolded near First and Second streets at around 10:30 Tuesday night after two Albany police officers were flagged down and told about a robbery.

The officers, Robert Shunk and Gregory Krikorain, then chased the two men suspected of committing the crime. One got away and police are still looking for him. They tracked down the other, Travis Telemaque of Amsterdam.

Police Chief James Tuffey said Telemaque pointed a loaded stolen 9-millimeter handgun at Officer Shunk, who then shot at him as he ran. Then both officers shot at Telemaque, hitting him in the groin. They found crack cocaine near him at the scene and also recovered another gun.

Tuffey said Telemaque was taken to Albany Med where he's in stable condition.

"He's sedated at the hospital. We're unable to interview him at this time, but we will as soon as he's able," Tuffey said.

Still, Tuffey said the criminal investigation continues. So does an internal police investigation. Tuffey said it's protocol any time an officer fires a weapon. He said Shunk and Krikorian each have almost a decade of experience on the force and neither has fired his gun in the line of duty and while they're on administrative leave for a few days, Tuffey said so far it looks like they did what they were supposed to.

"These officers called out during the pursuit. That gives me some confidence that this was done within procedure," Tuffey said.

The police are still missing a key piece to this whole crime -- the robbery victim.

Since the two officers chased the suspects, no one stayed with the victim who alerted them and now they're asking that person to come forward.
