AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- The board closed the building, essentially leaving the museum without a home. Now officials are looking for a new space to house the Walter Elwood Collection.

The building, on Guy Park Ave., is owned by the school district. It's close to 100 years old and Superintendent Tom Perillo says it's been deteriorating for a number of years.

The district voted to close the building immediately, but Perillo says there was no immediate danger. He says it was a result of a serious bat problem that posed health risks.

At this time, no one without a school district escort is allowed in the facility.

District officials say they'll will work with the museum board to look for a new locations. They have offered space for the museum's administrative office in the meantime.
