Albany man faces jail time for animal cruelty
ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Albany man faces up to a year in jail after being found guilty of animal cruelty for beating a puppy.
Lashawn Carter, 30, was arrested in June 2007 after several people called 911 saying a man was on Delaware Avenue beating his dog with his closed fist.
Police said Carter told officers that he was upset because the 6-month-old shepard mix went to the bathroom in his car.
After the incident, the dog was taken to the Mohawk Humane Society and was examined at Central Veterinary for injuries.
A jury found Carter guilty of a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty. He will be sentenced on Sept. 26 and faces up to one year behind bars.
