Gillibrand urging vets, seniors to get stimulus check

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing senior citizens and veterans to make sure they are getting their stimulus checks.

Gillibrand says more than 400,000 New Yorkers haven't claimed their rebates yet. Those eligible for the checks have until October 15th to fill out the paperwork.

Gillibrand says many seniors and veterans may not know they are eligible for the payment. While they are on fixed incomes, they don't need to fill out tax forms, but to get the stimulus check they do need to fill out a special form.

In the Capital Region, about 64 percent of seniors and vets have not filed for their payment.

"As you can see in this region, we have a lot of families that are missing out on between $300 and $600. That they are eligible for, that could really help defray the high cost of gas, home heating for this winter and food costs," Gillibrand said.
