Planned Parenthood opening in Amsterdam
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- Planned Parenthood is opening a clinic in Amsterdam.
Officials said the new facility will fill a gap that was created when Amsterdam Memorial closed its family planning clinic at the beginning of the year.
The new clinic is located in KEM plaza on Route 30. Officials said it's bringing family planning services back to Montgomery County.
Planned Parenthood Mohawk Hudson CEO Paul Drisgula said the clinic will be providing health services for women and men.

Patients will be able to get counseling, screenings, testing, treatment and birth control. They'll also offer free Plan B emergency contraceptive, the so-called morning after pill. They will not be providing surgical abortions at this site.
Drisgula said the location is on multiple bus lines and should be easy for patients throughout the county to reach.
Drisgula said, "People who know about Planned Parenthood know we are committed to serving them with the best medical services and now we have a wonderful facility to serve them in."
The clinic's official opening is next week. But even with contractors still in the building, a few patients have found their way there and the clinic is doing its best to accommodate them.
