Valet and taxi services offered for downtown nightlife
ALBANY, N.Y. -- If you are one of those people who love to get out on a Friday evening and enjoy the Albany night life, it may have gotten a bit easier to park and get around. If you take a cab into downtown, getting there is ok but when you want to leave, many people have some trouble.
Downtown Albany BID restaurant owners stop DWI and taxi companies have all come together with a solution. Starting now and running through mid October, every Friday and Saturday night there will be valet parking and a taxi stand on North Pearl Street, both services are set up between Stuben Place and Coumbia Street.
The Valet Parking will be from 6:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. and the taxi stand will be open from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next morning on a first come first severe basis.
Organizers hope it will help get people downtown and then allow them to leave without drinking and driving.

"Every single one of these establishments along North Pearl Street and in other parts of downtown have been at the table and has been directly involved in this because they are part of the solution. They know that people like to have a good time in downtown, but they want to make sure everyone gets home safely and gets home easily from downtown Albany,” said James Salengo.
While the service will usually be only offered on Friday's and Saturday's during next weeks restaurant week it will be offered everyday.
