Capital Region drivers cross the border for cheaper gas
NEW LEBANON, N.Y. -- New Lebanon, New York is geographically just a few miles from the Massachusetts border, but the two places feel worlds apart when it comes to gas prices.
New Lebanon resident Mike Debella said, "I think it's getting really high. I can just drive over to Pittsfield and get it for 20 cents cheaper a gallon."
We all know he's right. At the Shell station on West Housatonic Street in Pittsfield, just over the New York State line, drivers here say they don't miss a chance to fill up.
New Lebanon resident John Close said, "With the price difference between New York and here, it's actually worth coming over here to fill up as opposed to New York. I've got parents who are in the hospital. That's why I've got the larger vehicle, to transport them. Otherwise I'd still be in a more economical vehicle."

Then we met Frank from Stratford, Connecticut, where gas is, if you can believe it, up to 40 cents more than New York.
He said, "It's outrageous in Connecticut. New York is a little bit cheaper and now Massachusetts is a lot cheaper. $3.18 is a blessing for me. Back home in Fairfield County, we're paying up to $3.89."
Frank also owns a second home in New Lebanon. Unfortunately, the price of gas has kept him and his wife from getting there as much as they'd like.
"It used to cost me $25 to $30. I can't afford to come up here anymore. I'm thinking of selling. I can't afford it," he said.
