Former Patroons coach facing sexual battery charges in Fla.
MIAMI, Fla. -- Former NBA player and former Albany Patroons basketball coach Vincent Askew is in trouble with the law.
Askew, 42, was arrested by Miami-Dade police on Wednesday and charged with three counts of sexual battery. He is accused of having sex with a 16-year-old girl at a hotel in Florida.
Officials said he told the girl he was a coach for the girls basketball team at Gulliver High School and he was trying to recruit her to the team. Police said Askew was trying to get a coaching job at the Miami-Dade County prep school, but at no time has he ever been a coach there.
Askew coached the Albany Patroons after nine seasons in the NBA, most notably with the Seattle SuperSonics. The Patroons released Askew as head coach in March, after only one year.
He was released from Miami-Dade County Jail Thursday on $22,500 bond.
