Winter hair care tips
Out are the hairy days of fighting summer frizz and in are the dry dull bad hair days of winter.
Like many things, hair needs a little winterizing. We got some tips from celebrity hair stylist David Evangelista at his salon at the Cornelia Day Resort.
First, winter means a change of routine.
"Hair in the winter is a whole other routine than treating your hair in the summer," said Evangelista. "Summer, you have all that moisture around so you are really not worried about not hydrating your hair. But come the winter, the cold air sucks everything out, so you want keep your hair hydrated, moistened and shiny."
He said start by trying not to washing hair every single day, which will cause it to lose moisture.
Just like with skincare, hair needs new care products that have fatty acids or humectant in them to lock in moisture.
The blow dryer also needs a break.

"Another way to winterize your hair is to cut down on your drying time. So when you get out of the shower and your hair is wet, towel blot 20 percent of the moisture out," said Evangelista. "That way, the hot air won't take all the moisture out. So get a towel, wrap it around the hair and you're going to blot in."
Getting hair to keep its volume can be a problem, especially once hat hair kicks in. A little hairspray at the root should give hair more staying power.
Static is another winter hair issue but Evangelista can help spark some ideas.
"Static is a big problem in the winter and two ways to combat it is grab a dryer sheet that you use in the dryer to keep your clothes from bunching together, take it in your hands and rub the dryer sheet in your cuticle right here. That will keep static down," he said. "Another way [is] take some hair spray and spray it on a Mason Pearson brush and you can brush it right through, and it will really coat the cuticle and keep the static down."
Lastly, there's a simple solution for hair that's lost its luster.
"Get to your local health food store and get some safflower oil. It will create shine and moisten the hair," said Evangelista. "Few drops in your hand, [rub your hands to] warm it up and rub it through."
If the winter cold is taking a toll on your tresses, these tricks may help condition your hair to handle it.
