Unemployment rose slightly in Berkshire County in February

BERKSHIRE COUNTY, Mass. -- The latest unemployment numbers for Berkshire County have been released and it is not good news.

The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development says the unemployment rate rose to 8.6 percent for the month of February. The good news is that number is only three-tenths of a percentage point higher than January's rate. But an unemployment rate 8.6 is higher than the state average.

When the numbers for March are released, that's when you'll see a sharper rise because it will reflect recent layoffs from Crane and Company and KB Toys.
