Hot dog eating contest at Travers Festival

By: Web Staff

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- There is nothing like a hot dog eating contest to get the 13th annual Travers Festival started in the right direction.

The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is a 12 minute eating challenge which invites big-eaters to bite at the opportunity to "pig-out" in the summer's biggest hot dog binge. This year’s "top dog" comes to the Spa City from Buffalo and says he had no idea that he was going to beat out the competition.

“It's great. I come in second a lot. You know, I'm good, but I’m not on the very top and so very often I finish second. So when I finish first it's almost a surprise. It takes awhile to get used to it. It's a great feeling,” said contest winner Jim Reeves.

Reeves will receive a year's supply of hot dogs, courtesy of Nathan's. The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is part of the 13th annual Travers Festival, which celebrates the 139th running of the Travers Stakes starting this Saturday.
