U.S. Water Ski Show Team gives back to the community
SCOTIA, N.Y. -- U.S. Water Ski Show Team Program Director Brian Delarm said, "It's one of those sports where you have to have a lot of passion to do it, and when I'm not down here, I want to be here!"
Delarm has been on the U.S. Water Ski Show Team for 17 years now. Once he got in the water, he never looked back.
Waterskiing has become a family affair for the Delarms since they joined the team almost two decades ago. Delarm got involved by just coming down to the Mohawk River by Jumpin' Jacks and watching the show one Labor Day.
The stunts the team manages to pull off attract a lot of new members every year.

Program Director Brad Benjamin said, "Everyone loves the jump, and that's why I joined the team. I was watching as a spectator and I saw the jump, and I said, I want to do that!"
More than the acrobatics however, the skiers say they're about being a team -- both with each other and the community.
So for their 40th anniversary on the river, they're hosting a food drive for the Schenectady food bank every Tuesday night through August 26th.
Team announcer Polly Benjamin said, "We get a lot of attention down here at Jumpin' Jacks, and we just wanted to put some of that attention back on the community and do something to help."
The food pantry already does a lot of good for the community. They served almost 250,000 meals last year alone, but this year with the help of the U.S. Water Ski Show Team, they hope they can do more.
Delarm said, "It's a perfect fit for us and it's a perfect fit for the community. We're a local hometown ski team."
And by hometown, they mean everyone in the area. The team encourages everyone to not only come out and catch a show, but join the team as well. You don't even have to know how to water ski.
