Tyler Purvis Mitchell is the 14-year-old Albany boy who rescued an infant from under a CDTA bus last month.

Mitchell, a student at the Albany Preparatory Charter School, was returning home on May 30th, when he noticed a baby had fallen out of a stroller as its mother was loading it on the bus near Delaware Avenue and Marinello Terrace. The five-day-old baby wound up on the pavement, directly under one of the buses tires. The mother had not noticed the baby fell out of the stroller.

"He doesn't think he did anything extraordinary, he'll reflect and look back later in life and say, you know what, it was cool what I did," said Jennings.

"It feels pretty good to get recognized, for something I did good,” Mitchell said.

The Mayor also said Mitchell sets an excellent example for the community to look out for and help each other. Thanks to Mitchell, the baby only suffered some minor scrapes and is fine.
